VAG Com adaption values.

Evening.

Was fiddling with both Fay's and my VR today, and while looking at the measuring blocks, I noticed that my idle adaption was above 1, somewhere near 1.18, but Fay's was below 1, about 0.95 or something.

Now I know that 1 is stoich, i.e. AFR 14.7:1, so, an adaption value of above 1 indicates that the car is running rich, and below 1 it's running lean.

I.e. above 1, it may have an air leak after the MAF?

Is that right?

Other way round mate, < 1 = Rich, >1 = Lean

Was that idle adaptation mixture though, or just idle adaptation as in the adjustment the ECU is making to the idle valve's position?

Ok. Was thinking about it today was sure I'd got them the wrong way round.

It's the idle adapted value and the part throttle adapted value.

With figures of >1, I assume this means it could be pulling in unmetered air, and the ECU is having to add more fuel to make it run right? It's not running well at the moment, with stalling and a fairly rough idle, I need to fit a cleaned set of injectors before the MOT, and recheck all the vaccum hoses and the stupid PCV valve fitting, hopefully this will sort any issues out.

Right, had more of a fiddle today.

Started with idle adaption values of 1.195, checked for leaks, fited a few new jubilee clips, snuffled around, cleaned the MAF, and the adaption value started to drop, coming to finish at 0.995ish. It's hunting occasionally, revs itself up, stalls itself, misses, picks up, drops off, the lambda values are flying up and down, as is the ignition advance. Then it'll behave perfectly for a while. I think that the MAF is shot....

Arse I know that Gav has one in his garage. Not sure if it's a 6 or a 4 pin, but might be worth a call first thing tomorrow morning, before he comes up here.
