Well, thought I start a fresh thread for the new motor! Meet Gooney, son of Badcrumble!

Picked this 166k 1.8 valver up from Gav and Nikki, for the princely sum of 300 squid. To say I'm pleased is an understatement! Engine sounds sweet as a nut and the interior is mint. First job is to get it MOT'd then we'll see what changes take place....

Just about to pick up a spare cylinder head for my G60 (right price, right place, in case I ever need a spare) and it go me wondering what it would be possible to do to one to make it the best efficiency I can for a G60. Mine is currently ported and polished, and is definately a good head - a G-werks fast road head, no change in valve size from original from memory. The inlet manifold has not been port matched to the head, nor had the inlet manifold been flowed. Cam is a schrick 268/276 assymetric. ...

Right, so end of August I will finally be doing the chains on the Golf, but I have a suspicion that the AAA engine's valve guides and stem seals are fubarred. On overrun I get a puff of smoke from the exhaust (noticed it in Dartford tunnel, when doing the obligatory 'windows down and gunning it in 2nd' manoeuvre ). Furthermore, it's using a fair amount of oil, perhaps a litre every 1500miles.

Well, I was wondering how difficult is it to fabricate an exhuast manifold for use on a 16vT, or indeed any turbo type application (1.8T, VRT)? I would imagine a log type tubular manifold would be relatively easy, but what about equal length manifolds? Can you tacl stainless together with a MIG, and then get someone to TIG it up properly?

Defi recommend simply drilling and tapping a hole in the manifold (and to do it down near where the primarys connect), but I've also seen ones which have a welded on boss on the manifold and placed up near the cylinder head.
As usual my long term plans have changed again, with the new ECU I figure it is easier to use the 2ltr ABF block as it already contains all the required sensors for crank and cam positioning as well as giving me a 200cc increase in displacement.

So given the ABF is taller than a KR or 9A unit but that it is a straight fit into a Mk 2 will it fit under my early low bonnet?

My gut reaction is it will as I don't need the manifold space on top of the block, anyone got any measurements for the ...

So a few silly questions..

OE Development ECUs...

Was chatting with a colleague at work today about Megasquirt and he asked me why I wasn't using a G400 ECU out a *******! I hadn't even thought about it to be fair, but we (Pi Shurlok) have in the past sold G400s with a full software development platform. Obviously we don't sell those ECUs now as they have been discontinued, but second hand ones are easy to come by. We even have some existing strategies that can be used.

[/EDIT]Not allowed to mention which ECU were using at Pi, in this case[EDIT]

My Kit Car - Engine Transplant

Right, finally managed to get back into my engine transplant project so thought I'd post my progress up here....

I'll attempt to add some photos of the original car which I built a few years ago (before I got bored of the performance and wanted more power!):

I then decided (perhaps foolishly) that I needed to upgrade for more power and decided to fit a vauxhall red-top (C20CE) engine. Here's a few pics of the exhaust I had made by Martin Keenan at MK engineering (highly ...

Ok, so, I'd like to include an EGT probe of my build, but no little or nothing about them. EGT probes are just thermocouples, but what type of signal do they generate? Is it a voltage? Would I need some kind of input circuitry to use one? I know that my MS daughter board has some type of micro on it, but I have no idea what it does

4 pot brakes Vs master cylinder size.

Ok so I bled the system again....

I shunted shedloads of fluid through each corner with the rear valve regulator fully actuated.

I have bled the whole system before without too much trouble using the same equipment so I must conclude that it is because the new components i have introduced into the system, namely the wilwood brakes as I have tried every corrado brake bleeding method ever posted on the internet.

Not I went against my better judgement and sold my g60 standard front brakes ...

Cam positions sensors for sequential Megasquirt...

Been thinking about sequential injection. Megasquirt can support it (with some mods) and I was wondering what could be used as a cam position sensor. Could a dizzy be used as it has a hall sensor in it? The only thing I can see as a problem is of course you can adjust a dizzy for timing, so thus you could do the same fro the cam position sensor. This of course isn't really desirable, so has anyone got any suggestions on how else to implement a cam position sensor on a 16v head? Also is a normal ...
