Aye, not so many now, if any?

Was thinking about pipe routing last night (getting a head of myself a little..) and was wondering if my current plan to use a 1.8T/16v hybrid manifold with the throttle on the left was the best option. Here are a few thoughts...

1) Out from the turbo, round the right hand side of the block to a FMIC and then out from the FMIC on the left, up into the throttle on the 150bhp 1.8T/16v hybrid manifold

2) Same as 1), but using the existing 16v manifold??

3) Out from the turbo, round the left hand side of the block to a FMIC and then out from the FMIC on the right, up into the throttle on the 225bhp 1.8T/16v hybrid manifold

4) Out from the turbo round the right hand side of the block, into a charge cooler, then straight into the throttle on the 225bhp 1.8T/16v hybrid manifold

What do you guys think?

As no bugger wanted to answer my questions above, I thought as I am finally having the Badcrumble's shell collected today, I'd drag Gooney out and give him a wash....

I reckon he's just the right height, and seeing the sebrings on it makes me think some compomotive TH Mono 8x16s would really suit him

Any ideas on weights of these wheels? Oh and brake calliper clearance?

There is one 16V T Corrado I know of, but he's not on the forum.

It was one of the first conversions Stealth did (with the K star and VR6 injectors etc) 9 or 10 years ago. It's the same colour as Reidy's TDI Corrado. It came in for a service when I was at Stealth last winter and it's done well over 200,000 miles, looks shabby as hell but it purred like a kitten at idle, dead smooth and goes like stink. The Guy has used it every day since the Turbo conversion all those years ago!!

How's that for reliable?! Very Happy

Those wheels will be quite heavy due to the width. 1J width adds a kilo of weight, so I'm reckoning on around 9 - 9.5Kg for those bad boys.

Hmmm, not a particularly light wheel then. I might email compomotive and get a definitive weight.

I'd quite like to try running the standard manifold with a turbo and then compare it to a short runner

Ah, I overlooked it was a compomotive wheel, in which case it definitely will be heavy then. Comp are good on email, they're happy to email you over some schematics and weights etc.

The standard intake worked well on my 16V T in the midrange but you can definitely feel the torque fall away at the top end.

Well, that wheel is a special order only....I'd need to order minimum 60 sets Sad They have the 15 in stock. They replied really quickly too, as you said Kev Smile

Hmmmm, torquey eh? Might start off there. Saves a bit of cash on a short running to start with too. All in the name of trial and error Smile

Ok, so if using the standard manifold, what type of exhaust mani will I need? I suppose one that mounts the turbo low?

60 sets?!! Who the hell is going to by 60 sets of a niche wheel like that?
I've never understood that. They'd rather not sell you a set of 4 from the 15 in stock and make some profit, but instead not ever get an order of 60 sets and make no profit!. Team Dynamics are the same. It's weird but english car businesses seem to like biting off the hand that feeds them.

Anyway, it's friday, rant mode = off!

I had the 50mm intake on mine and it worked really well. I reckon the 44mm one would be worse at the top end with a turbo, good midrange thump though! Very Happy
Isn't it common practice to use an S2 or Quattro intake on 16V Ts? With the 5th runner pruned off?

I would start off with the standard intake if it will fit though, just to get a flavour of what it's going to be like and yep, that will mean a turbo manifold that's quite low.

This is a bolt on kit which uses the stock intake, so you could use the manifold from it I guess? - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I know. Who is gonna buy 60 sets....erm no one Rolling Eyes

Yeah, seen a few that have used the modified Audi intake. That would be another option.

Pretty sure my valver has the 44mm one. I'll try that I think. Midrange tastic Twisted Evil

Yeah, seen that kit before, and contemplating using a Kinetic Motorsport manifold. They seem to have a good rep as well.

Manifold choice is fairly subjective and down to you really bud. There's an s2 on ed38 at the mo for £90 tho.

Boost piping will also just be a function of whatever charge cooling arrangements you make.So maybe hold off making any decisions on that unitl you invest in a charge/intercooler.
Once you decide what TB and intercooler you want to run then the rest will follow suit.

I've already got an intercooler, and it's huge Cool It's off an LT TDI van, plastic end caps though. scratch
